How did we get started and how did we get that name
- ,
As Sophia would say from The Golder Girls, "Picture
this....". Twinsburg, Ohio December 1997 Crash
Lowe walks into his house after a day of kayaking in
Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania. Its a cold 27°F, it's
windy, it's snowing - snowflakes the size of golf balls.
(that lake effect snow comes in all sizes). Crash is
greeted by his mother who he affectionatlely calls "Jo"
(short for Jo Mama).
"Now, " she says "you know how I hate
it when you lie to me!" "Yeah" responds
Crash. "You can't tell me you don't get cold out
there kayaking in weather like this". "Jo,
honestly, the only time I get cold is when I have to
get out of my wet suit and the snow is falling and the
wind is blowin at 30 mph". Crash continues "Do
you suppose you could make me some sort of garment that
I could put on while I get out of my wet suit?"
So the very first Boof Gear was designed and made by
the next weekend. Trial and error brought us to the
garment we have today. We hope that your Boof Gear Cascade
provides you with a cozy & warm place to get out
of your wet suit and into your dry undies.
The name "Boof" came from the Kayak maneuver
of the same name. However for all those non-kayak people
who purchase our products it's just a stange sounding
name.
We use 100% polyester fleece for all our garments,
and our garments are made by individual seamstresses
in Ohio and Kentucky, U.S.A.
